Institution History
The present Purameri area of Purameri Grama Panchayat was initially a part of the erstwhile Vellur Panchayat. In 1953, T.C. Rairu Kurup was elected as the President of Vellur Panchayat through an open show-of-hands vote.The present Purameri Grama Panchayat was officially formed in 1963 as part of a administrative reorganization. The panchayat was created by merging the regions of Purameri, Vilathapuram, Kuningad, Muthuvadathur, Elayadam, Perumundacheri, and Aroor.Through an election conducted using ballot papers, P. Kunhikelu Adiyodi was elected as the first President of Purameri Panchayat.
