Kozhikode District
Administrative History

Purameri Grama Panchayat is located under the Thuneri Block in Vatakara Taluk of Kozhikode district.

Historically, Purameri was part of the famous Kadathanadu region of Malabar. Under the patronage of the Kadathanadu royal dynasty and local rulers, this area became rich in martial arts (Kalarippayattu), Vadakkan Pattukal (Northern Ballads), and folk traditions. The name 'Purameri' is believed to have originated from the term 'Puram Aeri', meaning a fertile region situated outside the main water bodies. It is a land with deep roots in agrarian movements and freedom struggles. Prominent educational institutions, including the Kadathanad Rajas High School, played a crucial role in the academic growth of the region.
